Germany has over 600,000 unfilled positions right now — and 163 of those occupations are officially classified as shortage professions, meaning visa processing is faster, salary thresholds are lower, and employers have every incentive to hire you. This week: 11 verified roles across healthcare, veterinary medicine, IT, engineering, and trades. Three require no German at all.

IMMIGRATION UPDATE
Germany's Work-and-Stay Agency is set to launch in 2026
A new digital platform connecting employers, the Federal Employment Agency, and immigration offices. Once live, it aims to cut work permit processing times by 25–30%. If your employer registers with the WSA, your permit timeline shortens significantly.
Also confirmed: from 1 January 2026, employers must inform new foreign hires about free independent counselling services on their first working day — ask your employer about this on arrival.
EU Blue Card salary thresholds 2026: €50,700 standard occupations · €45,934 shortage occupations (shortage includes all healthcare, IT, and engineering roles — this applies to most Nordbound readers) → make-it-in-germany.com/en/visa-residence/skilled-immigration-act
German Word of the Week
Fachkräftemangel (fakh-kref-tuh-mang-el)
Skilled worker shortage. The single word that explains why Germany needs you. You will see it in every news article, every employer pitch, and every government policy document about international hiring. When an employer says "we have a Fachkräftemangel", they mean, "We cannot fill this role from the local market, and we need someone like you.”
Application Tip
The German CV must include your photo and date of birth
This surprises almost every international applicant. The German Lebenslauf format requires a professional headshot (top right corner), your date of birth, nationality, and full chronological work history with no gaps. Maximum 2 pages. No objective statement. Always list language certificates with level (Goethe B2, IELTS 7.0, OET B, etc.). A German CV that omits the photo reads as incomplete to a German recruiter. → Free template: nordboundjobs.com/cv-template
Scam Alert
Fee-for-visa scam circulating on WhatsApp this week
Messages from accounts claiming to be "German employers" are asking applicants to pay a "visa processing fee" or "placement fee" before signing any contract. No legitimate German employer charges candidates for recruitment — under ILO principles and German law, recruitment costs are paid by the employer, not the applicant. If anyone asks you for money before you have a signed employment contract, it is a scam. → Report at: make-it-in-germany.com/en/living-in-germany/working/protection-from-labour-exploitation
